This morning we left our hotel in washington DC to go to a breakfast place that was recommended to us by our waitress Angela last night at “The Pig.”

We Had :

  • Open Face Sourdough
    • Sourdough Bread, Egg, Ham & Arugula
  • Breakfast Tacos
    • Chorizo, Guacamole, Sour Cream, Salsa & Queso Fresco,
  • Potato Pancake with Lox & Poached Egg
  • Potato Pancake with Poached Egg

Commissary was a nice place most of the people there were helpful. The food was very good and fresh. The potato pancakes looked like hash browns but tasted like jewish latkes. My dad’s lox eggs were savory but not fishy. Mom’s sandwich was great because the arugula was spicy. Grandpa had eggs and potato pancakes too. My only complaint is that the egg cooking was very inconsistent, me and my family all ordered poached eggs cooked medium, but some of us got runny eggs and most of us got solid eggs.

Just like “The Pig,” the cheese was supposed to taste Mexican, but tasted like Greek “Feta” cheese. The guacamole and salsa were very tasty, and a little salty. I took a spoon full of salsa on its own because it was so good. All the food was farm to table and the prices were fair.

The place felt more like a bar than a restaurant, but the bar had a Homer Simpson quote over it which  was funny. They have a big computer charging stand that moves from table to table which was cool. The crowd was mostly young, with a few families.

An unexpected treat was when mark, the manager, came out to greet me. I was a little tired so I did not get to talk much to him, but i was honored to have the manager come to greet me. The bar-like feel made it less of a place for kids than its sister location “The Pig,” but I would still recommend it to families with kids*. In all I would give this place 3.5 stars.

* NOTE : COMMISSARY IS PRIMARILY A BAR WITH A GOOD BREAKFAST AND LUNCH COURSE – LISTED IN MOST GUIDES IN BAR CATEGORY
